Bloodhound For Your Love

CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE SONG

You say I look defeated,

But I'm a stubborn breed.

Dogged as a hound,

An animal of need.

My vision may be fading,

But my nose always knows.

Who you've been with,

How your story goes.

You’ve never had a lover

As passionate as me.

You’re a hard, hard woman—

You had to learn to be.

With all the weight you’re dragging,

The trauma and abuse,

You know I’d stand beside you,

And help to cut it loose.

I'm a bloodhound for your love, baby,

You know that I won't stop.

I'm a bloodhound for your love,

You know I can't give up.

You know I'm gonna find you,

You're always leaving clues.

I'm a bloodhound for your love,

And everything you do.

It don’t make no sense,

Don’t tell me that we’re through.

Your scent lives in my bones,

Like purple made with blue.

I know you want to run,

When things start getting real.

That feeling of distrust,

Is your heart trying not to feel.

Some ties are invisible,

We all have our leash.

Some kind need their loyalty,

Some kind need release.

I'm vowing to protect you,

And you can call me blind.

Chasing after someone,

Who never will be mine.

Fabulous! You really "killed it" on this one ... great lyrics, flawless music (including some nice lead guitar and excellent harmonica solos), and just a great package all together! You even got the voice mixed appropriately. A very enjoyable song to listen to! I think my favorite type of music, if I had to choose, is the blues with funny or tongue-in-cheek lyrics. Dylan did a tons of great songs of this type. ("Leopard-skin Pillbox Hat" is a classic example.) Your song fits right into the genre! And it's particularly funny for me because we just flew back from Toronto (for our first visit since making Aliyah), and one of the movies I watched on the plane was "Best in Show" (one of the funniest movies of all time, and probably the number one funniest Canadian movie, IMHP) ... I hadn't seen it in a very long time, and it was just as funny as I remembered it to be. If you recall, one of the winning dogs was a bloodhound (whose owner also resembled a bloodhound). Bloodhounds are inherently funny ... and using the bloodhound as an emblem for unrequited love is a stroke of genius. Well done, my brother!

Now that's a dream review! I agree, about blues being my favourite type of music, and tongue-in-cheek, funny blues, with wordplay and puns is definitely the best sub-genre of blues. Blues is meant to make you smile. Humour in blues is very, how shall I say, Jewish? I've seen Best in Show. Great movie. Up there with Spinal tap. And coiuncidentally I've just released my re-recording of my satirical song Bob Barker, with a dog on the cover (a pug), which also has canine theme since Barker (nominative determinism?) was a huge supporter of The ASPCA and at the end of each Price Is Right told the audience to get their pets spayed or neutered. LOL.
