The official Montreal launch of Halbman Steals Home at the Jewish Public Library, pics care of cousin Sonia. Over a hundred and fifty in attendance, mostly family, friends, acquaintances and book lovers all. My mom surprised me by coming in from Florida earlier than scheduled. Except for the absence of one special person who would have kvelled had he been able to make it (and my brothers, one in Florida and the other in South Africa), it could not have been a more perfect event. And the highlight? Well, that prize goes to cousin Larry, who had vowed to me at our Passover seder that he would show up in an authentic Expos uniform. He made good on his word. A lifelong athlete, one year Larry attended the Expos spring training fantasy camp in West Palm Beach. The venerable JPL, never saw a literary soiree like it. Kudos and special thanks to Roxana Brauns for making it all happen so smoothly.
