I ain’t goin down to Florida
Don’t care how cold it gets (x 2)
I said I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
They got snakes down in Florida
Thick as your two legs (x 2)
I said I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
They got alligators down in Florida
In rivers and in lakes (x 2)
I said I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
They got hurricanes down in Florida
Make the house walls shake (x 2)
I said I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
They got big sharks down in Florida
Want to tear your flesh (x 2)
I said I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
They got sunshine down in Florida
Make your skin burn red (x 2)
I say I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
I had a girl down in Florida
The kind you can't forget (x 2)
I say I ain’t goin down to Florida
No matter how my baby begs.
I ain’t goin down to Florida
Don’t care how cold it gets (x 2)
I say I ain’t goin down to Florida
Cause one time I did say yes.

First of all, I love the way you pronounce "Florida" ... your true African-American roots shine through in the accent! Just hearing you say "Florida" makes the song worthy of repeated listenings. There's a lot I like about this song. Fabulous harmonica, for example. Great concept (i.e., that you won't go down there no matter how much your baby begs you)! And I love the last verse ... nice touch at the ending! What I like a bit less ... it's a couple of minutes too long ... and, it just doesn't tickle my funny bone like "Everybody's Takin Pictures" does .. the latter song is just so true, whereas I'm not so sure how true a fear of snakes, sharks and alligators is (unless you have some phobias that I just can't relate to in the same way). So, inasmuch as I would never say "no" to a Glen Rotchin blues song, this one rates significantly lower than my new fav.
I can never predict how anyone will react. Not even someone who I feel like I know like a brother. Then again, my brothers surprise me all the time. Well, this blues, as I'm sure you can tell, is satirical - a guy trying to convince himself why he won't go down to Florida, trying every excuse, hence the snakes, alligators and sharks. So no, it isn't phobias, it's actually as you find out in the end, a girl (who may be actually be the snake, shark and alligator) ... And here's a secret, it was inspired by a pretty famous Muddy Water's tune that came over the radio (please don't compare my performance to MW's) while I was driving home from work on the coldest day of the year (-20C). His tune is way more positive about Florida than mine. And there I was thinking, I'm not goin down to Florida no matter how cold it gets. Some political undertones there too, as I'm sure you know.
OK, you’ve deepened my appreciation by several degrees. I still like “Everybody’s Takin Pictures “ better.
