What more
must you know
than how it feels
in the moment
like the fruit
how it tastes,
how it smells,
appeals
in colour and shape
to the eyes
fills the belly
satisfies.
It's true
there's more
to the story:
a tree, a farm,
a faraway land,
a migrant day
picker
lending his hand
doesn't speak
the language
but the past
interrupts
the pleasure.

Better not to think about how the food gets to the table, or how the clothing gets to our closet, or the shoes, or why your stock shares keep increasing in value. Better to just enjoy the moment of pleasure and not think about the misery and exploitation that may have been required to bring you to this moment.
Like Richard Corey, like Alanis Morissette, we're getting hit in the kishke with the irony of it all!
Yeah, how can we enjoy anything in life? How can we live fully in the moment, when everything and everyone has a backstory. Truly appreciating the moment requires getting the whole story, but then you’re not really living in the moment.
